This month the United States government will put in place a 30% tariff that has been on the books for years.  Previously Cedar products were exempt from this tariff because very little cedar is logged in the United States.  Cedar prices were immediately affected by more than 30% increases.

Due to a 12-14 week back log on orders of timber trusses, Ryan Wholesale has made the decision to purchase a CNC timber processor that should be delivered to our facility in June of 2018. This new machine will allow us to keep our order file to a workable 3-4 weeks, as well as expand our product line to include timber frame cottage and tiny home kits, elaborate wood joinery pergola kits, and custom milling on glu-lam beams such as pre-drilling, knife plate slotting, precision end cuts and decorative end cuts. We’ve begun to see drastic cost increases on Douglas Fir timbers due to the cross-over effect of people trying to find cheaper alternatives to cedar that has been subject to the tariff implemented earlier in the fall.

Next week our team travels to Montreal to receive training on the CADwork software that will be used to operate our new CNC timber processor.
